Microsoft Office 2003 Pro11msi

admin

Hi People, My company uses Microsoft office 2003. I have this problem where one user recieves an error when he open MS Word. THe error states that he needs to run PRO11.MSI. However this only happens when he is off the network. And even then if you choose cancel, word works fine, the only think you cannot do is select HELP on the toolbar. When he is on the network WORD can see the SMS server (original location of PRO11.MSI) and all is well.

Jan 9, 2008 - I'm not sure to whom I should turn, Dell or Microsoft. Everything else in Outlook seems to work fine. It's just weird that this one simple function of. What i dont understand is why it continually needs to look for PRO11.MSI. At the moment the only way he can open word without getting this error is when I create a shortcut to winword.exe with the switch /a. I tried to m ake all word documents use this switch by modifying how word opens in file types, but the same switch doesnt prevent the error. I have also deleted and recreated normal.dot, and am very confused. Varutha padatha valibar sangam mp4 hd songs download.

The obvious solution is try a reinstall, but a second person has complained of the same problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The PRO11.msi file is a setup file that gives Word (Office) setup information about the edition and features available to the edition (among other things). So, if Word is asking for it, then likely an advertised feature has been used (or requested). Advertised features are the 'install on first run' features in setup. By hitting cancel, setup just doesn't install or offer the feature.

However, it does remember that you requested the feature once so it will tirelessly ask you for it until the feature is installed. You can usually fix this problem in two ways (second way is like what chuckyh suggested - my preferred method also): 1. Browse to the location of the pro11.msi file in the dialog box. The error actually says something like, 'the feature you are trying to use is on a disk or other removable media.' You should be able to click browse, then select it (wherever it is), and Word should be happy from there on out. Do a custom install installing all of the features for whatever applications you have. So, do a complete install for Word in this case.

I recommend a complete install of Office Tools also.

We have files to install Microsoft Office 2003 on a server. For the past few years, I have simply run the setup.exe from the file share, to successfully install Office 2003 without issue. Several months back, my boss (at the time) moved the files to a new server and setup a new share. Office 2003 still installs without issue, but now when I approve Office updates via WSUS, the updates fail and when I try to install them manually, I am prompted for the location of the PRO11.MSI, and I need to browse to the new share.

I tried running the LISTool utility and was unable to correct the issue. Does anyone know a way to resolve this? Look in the registry under HKCR Installer Products SourceList Net, you'll see the install location usually starting with number 1, you can either change this key or add a new key called 2, basically MSIs will scroll through the list of servers until one responds, you will need to push out the registry key update to all systems affected, as I mentioned either modify or add the path to the new folder share.

Note that the key is a REG_EXPAND_SZ so is in binary not string. Have had to do this in the past with Office 2000, but with 2003 I used Cached install so the files are actually on the local system, I did it this way because of laptop users who may update while overseas or away from the network for long periods of time. Office 2007/2010 I believe does this by default. Hope that helps.
